2010

It’s been a long time since I sent the last newsletter, so I thought I’d squeeze one in before the new year arrives.  The website is now updated for 2011:  the address is www.montybrett.com.

Here’s a brief look at what’s planned for next year:

Madagascar 2011

There’s been a great deal of interest, so we’ve decided to do two trips, one to the South of Madagascar, and one to the North and East. The details of both trips can be found on our website www.montybrett.com under “Trips Away”, or click on the heading to this paragraph and you’ll go straight onto the relevant page.

Baroque in the Bush 2011

Although all the hutted accommodation is full at this stage, please call or email me and I’ll put your name down onto the waiting list.  Once on the list, I’ll do my best to find you a place.  The dates are 24th to 27th September, 2011.  The costs will be available early in the new year.

Classical Music Explained

This should be a really great course.  Richard and Sue Cock are such good presenters, and the subject matter is fascinating.  They’ll be looking at the different eras in music, such as Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern, and the important composers that contributed to each.  The course will start in July.

Kilimanjaro

Are you keen to climb Kilimanjaro?  I climbed more than 10 years ago, and I’d really like to do it again sometime.   If there’s enough interest, I’ll try put together a trip sometime in 2011.  We use one of the top tour-operators with an excellent reputation and safety record.  Please contact me on kim@montybrett.com to register your interest.

Antarctica

I don’t know about you, but a trip to the Antarctic is definitely high on my bucket-list.   Please contact me if you’re interested in finding out more about the scheduled departure dates, prices, etc.   kim@montybrett.com, or 033 266-6954.

Some items that may be of interest to you:

Rhino Poaching

Poaching incidents, and in fact any environmental crime, can be reported to 083 454‑6528 or 083 488‑0400, or email info@conservsecurity.com.

I won’t be spending too much time in the office over the next couple of weeks, so please bear with me if I don’t reply to your emails promptly.

Have a wonderful, safe and happy time with your loved ones over the festive season, and here’s to a fabulously successful 2011 for us all.

Warm regards,

Kim

Message from a Vet

I received this hard-hitting message from a vet on my mailing list, which gives some serious food for thought.  It is quoted verbatim and pulls no punches:

“Today I spayed a cat. She was brought to me by an animal welfare organisation, having been dumped by some selfish ignorant fool. She was pregnant with 4 foetuses. If she had not been spayed, she and her statistically 2 daughters would each have had 4 kittens 6 months from now, and she and her 2 older daughters, her 2 new daughters and her 4 grand-daughters would each have had 4 more kittens 6 months after that. Continue to do the maths, adding in the males, and after 4 years you are heading for 100 000 cats.

I sterilise about 50 homeless animals a week for charities. If I continue to do so until I have worked for 40 years, I will have sterilised 100 000 charity animals in my career. So if one idiot dumps one unsterilized animal about 4 years before I retire, he will replace all the animals I have sterilised with unsterilized ones the day I retire. Thanks, idiot!?

Municipal pounds in Gauteng alone have to kill over 2 000 homeless animals every month. Guess what that adds up to in 4 years......100 000 deaths. So all that senseless killing is only cancelling out the irresponsibility of one person who didn't sterilise an animal 4 years before. Food for thought for that person.

Tomorrow I will sterilise another 10 charity animals. While I am doing that, please send this email to everyone you know.  Maybe it will reach one person who will change their selfish mindset and sterilise their pet. Even if it can stop one pregnant animal from being abandoned before the year 2030, all the work I do for charities may not have been a complete waste of time."
