Waterfalls of Zambia – a self-drive exploration

April 8 - 30, 2008

Sunset over the Kasanka Swamps.

Samfya Beach at sunset.

The Proteas are gorgeous - they simply beg to be photographed.

Many frogs and toads were to be found in the damp spray of the many waterfalls we visited.

Ntumbachusi Falls.

Our bush-kitchen, Africa style.

Slip-sliding away. George and Isabel slid gently into the muddy ooze on the side of the road, and it took two hours to get them out!

The road to Kabweluma Falls.

A stream crosses the path to Kabweluma Falls.

On our way to Kapishya Springs. This was quite hard going, given the huge amount of rain we'd had.

Kevala Falls.

Swimming in the hot springs of Kapishya. This is crystal clear water, with a temperature of 40 degrees all year round. The birding in the lodge gardens was spectacular.

Shiwa Ngandu. This exquisite manor house was built in the early 1900s by an eccentric Englishman, Colonel Gore-Brown. It is most extraordinary to see this magnificent estate suddenly emerge out of the African bush. Gore-Brown’s grandchildren are running it as a hunting lodge, and restoring it to its former glory. They also run Kapishya Lodge.
