15 years old, and still going strong. Some of our guests thought this year was the best ever. Click below to see some photos of this great event.

Everyone agrees - what a difference it has made to our courses to have the Wanderers Club as our venue! Click below to see photos of some of the students hard at work.

Zambia: Shoebill or Bust! - 2009

Our main aim was to find the Shoebill in the Bangweulu Swamps, and Chaplin's Barbet. We visited Kasanka, Mutinondo, Lochinvar, Kapishya Springs and Shiwa Ng'Andu.

Many thanks to Richard Halley-Stott who took these photos.

Bird ID Southbroom - 2009

This was the first time we've run our Bird ID course down the south coast, and it was very well received. The venue was the Riverbend Crocodile Farm, in a well appointed and air-conditioned conference room. I don't think us Nottingham Roaders would have survived otherwise! Click here to see some of the students who attended the course.

Music in the Mist - 2008

This weekend certainly lived up to its name this year. We had wall to wall mist and rain, and weren't able to visit the Woodbush Forest, nor do any of the walks in the area near the hotel. Nonetheless, the weekend was fabulous and the music was enjoyed by everyone. Birding expert Clive Hopcroft was on top form and gave two really good talks, and our historian Prof Louis Changuion gave us a good overview of the history of the area. Thanks to everyone who supported us on this weekend - hope we'll see you again in 2010.

Many thanks to our violinist Leonie Greyling, who found time between concerts to take these gorgeous photos.

Baroque in the Bush - 2008

Baroque 2008 was particularly successful, with some of the music being heard in South Africa for the first time. The orchestra was on top form, with some brilliant solos performed on the violin, viola, flute and oboe. Richard Cock and percussionist Brian Clarke provided some exceptional entertainment during the Musical Conversations. The weather was amazingly co-operative, with some cloud cover shielding us during the heat of the day, and cool evenings to keep the mozzies away at night. Thanks to everyone who contributed in one way or another to the weekend.

Our sincere thanks to Lawrie Poorter and Rodney Kretzschmar for providing us with these photographs.

Waterfalls of Zambia – 2008

TRIP REPORT-BACK

The main aim of this trip was to see all the wonderful waterfalls in Northern Zambia, which originate on the high plateaus of the Congo and Tanzania. These waterfalls are very seldom seen by the average tourist, because they are very remote, the roads are extremely poor and sometimes impassable, and there is very little fuel available in the area. It is a really beautiful part of the world, almost completely unspoilt by tourism. The area is considered to be one of the best birding spots for Miombo Woodland species.
