About Monty Brett

Monty started running bird identification courses in Jo’burg in 1984, using top experts such as Ken Newman, Clive Hopcroft and Geoff Lockwood, amongst many others.   These were soon followed by courses in wildlife, insects, trees and other topics.

In 1994, Monty and Richard Cock started Baroque in the Bush, a weekend of Baroque music at Shingwedzi in the Kruger Park.  This event now has a life of its own and has attracted a large and loyal following, with some folks having attended 17 of the 22 events.

In 2014, Monty put the birding and wildlife courses online as Armchair Courses.  Now, anyone from anywhere in South Africa and the world can attend, live and interactive, from the comfort of their own homes.
