Bird Identification Course - Southbroom

This fabulous journey through the world of birds will give you a rock-solid foundation on which to build your birding skills. Our experts will take you through your paces, covering topics such as bird biology, their breeding habits, how and why birds sing, and much more. No previous birding experience is necessary, and even really good birders will learn a lot on these comprehensive courses.

Minimum 30 people.

Raptors (Birds of Prey)

This is an in-depth examination of our bird of prey, looking at how to differentiate between similar species of accipiters and how to tell the eagles apart, amongst many other things. Lorna Stanton's live birds, including her African Hawk Eagle, will be on show on the last evening.

Bird ID Course - Wanderers Club, Johannesburg

Our Bird ID Course is for everyone interested in birds, whether you've been birding for some time and know a thing or two already, or whether you’re a complete beginner. Our birding experts will enthrall and delight you, challenge you and guide you. The course is very comprehensive and covers a wide range of topics, including why and how birds sing, why some male birds have outrageous plumage, the ins and outs of bird courtship and breeding, and of course, how to identify the jolly things accurately in the first place.

Minimum 50 people.

Bird ID Course - Shingwedzi, Kruger Park

The content of this course is exactly the same as our Johannesburg-based Bird ID Course, but compacted into four days. It is aimed equally at those who already love birding, and at those who would like to give it a try. The topics to be covered include why some males dress up for the females and why some are more successful, the songs birds sing to each other, breeding strategies and, of course, how to identify them accurately.

The course will include some field work in the Shingwedzi area.

Minimum 30 people.

Dates: September 27 - October 1, 2010
Duration: 3 full day sessions plus 2 half-day sessions, 20 hours in all
Venue: Skukuza Camp, Kruger National Park. Directions and other details will be sent to you on receipt of your booking.
